Probation workers reach 2019 National Probation Awards finals

National Probation Awards 2019

Two probation workers and a team from divisions of Kent, Surrey and Sussex Community Rehabilitation Company (KSS CRC), part of the Seetec group, could scoop a prestigious National Probation Award this year.

The awards, organised by Her Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS), recognises outstanding achievements made by staff in areas such as public safety, changing lives and staff support, across the Community Rehabilitation Companies (CRCs) and National Probation Service (NPS) in England and Wales.

Kirsten Davies, Probation Service Officer; Caroline McCormack, Probation Officer; and the Case Support Workers team have all reached the finals.

Kirsten, a finalist from Wales in the public protection category, was shortlisted for her ability to motivate change in the most prolific offenders at the highest risk of reoffending.

Caroline, also from Wales, is a finalist in the changing lives category and was nominated by a service user who says, "If I wasn't supported by Caroline, I would have ended up recalled and back on drugs, back to my old ways."

The Case Support Workers team operating across Kent, Surrey and Sussex could also scoop the Team of the Year award. Case support workers have 'lived' experience of the criminal justice system and support service users most likely not to complete their sentences to transform their lives. Since offering additional support to individuals, there has been a decline in people breaking the conditions of their sentence, and many examples of offenders finding a job, a suitable place to live, or engaging with other important services such as health services.

KSS CRC Chief Executive Suki Binning said: "The National Probation Awards recognise the leading edge of probation practice and the good work taking place. I am immensely proud we have two staff and a team showcasing some of the outstanding work happening across our divisions to reduce reoffending and improve lives."

Congratulations and good luck to the finalists!

The annual ceremony takes place on Wednesday 3 July. Follow the hashtag #PCOTY19 on the night for coverage of the event.

KSS CRC has probation divisions in Wales; Devon, Dorset and Cornwall; Kent, Surrey and Sussex; Bristol, Gloucestershire, Wiltshire and Somerset. More information on our probation services can be found here.
