Increased prospects of leading a better life

Kent, Surrey and Sussex Community Rehabilitation Company (KSS CRC), part of the Seetec Group, has launched its new enhanced Through the Gate service to nine prisons across Kent, Surrey and Sussex this month.

The service provides offenders with additional rehabilitation support to reduce their likelihood of reoffending.

20 additional staff have been employed as part of this enhanced service, supporting offenders to find a place to live, get a job, manage their finances, address any health or addiction issues and learn new skills. Each offender will get a plan to support them when they leave prison to continue to address the issues that can lead to their offending.

The service is provided to short-term prisoners, who often have the highest rates of reoffending.

The Ministry of Justice contracted Kent, Surrey and Sussex Community Rehabilitation Company to deliver services to short-term prisoners in May 2015. Last year, they committed a further £22 million of funding so all probation services can provide additional rehabilitation support.

KSS CRC’s Assistant Chief Probation Officer for resettlement, Lee Whitmore, said: “Our service will benefit local communities by helping to give individuals the additional support they need to resettle back into the community. This in turn will help to reduce the likelihood of reoffending upon release.”
