Top Tips on Applying for Your Apprenticeship Programme
Found your ideal apprenticeship programme and ready to apply? Our top tips will help you secure the placement you’re after.
Tip one: Take your time
Make sure to take your time with your application. There’s no rush. In fact if you feel you need to spread the process over multiple days, do it. The more time you allow yourself, the greater chance you have of spotting errors such as spelling mistake and bad grammar.
Try also to position yourself somewhere with no distractions whilst building your application. This’ll allow you to fully concentrate and stay focused.
Tip two: The right details
There’s nothing more frustrating for the employer than a promising application with irrelevant contact details. Make sure the details you’re including on your application are accurate and up-to-date as to avoid missing out on the opportunity.
It’s also a good idea to store your contact details on the National Apprenticeship Service website where the employer will be able to contact you.
Tip three: Sell yourself
Just like a job application, you’ll want to sell yourself when applying for the apprenticeship programme. Make sure to draw attention to your strengths and why you believe you’re the right person for the role. Touch on how you could add value to the company and what skills you bring to the table.
Tip four: Getting in contact
It’s important to think about how you want the employer to contact you. Avoid using novelty email addresses that could portray you in a bad way, instead try simply using your name. The same applies to your voicemail. Ensure your message is professional and appropriate in case the employer follows up your application with a call.
Tip five: Think social media
Would you feel comfortable with the employer seeing your Facebook, Twitter and Instagram right now? It’s common for employers to screen applicants using social media information, so you may want to review your content and settings. Refrain from posting inappropriate content and ensure your channels represent you in a good light.
