An autistic customer that gained a job through the Work Choice programme is over the moon to have won the Outstanding Star of the Year award from his employer; Allianz.

George Dobbie, 32 had no idea that he was in the running for the award, saying “It was an unbelievable moment when I won - I was so shocked, I genuinely did not expect to win. And the reaction I got was amazing. It was genuinely one of the proudest moments of my life”.

Introduced to Seetec through the government funded Work Choice programme, a programme designed to give tailored employment support for people with physical and mental health conditions.   George was offered the support he needed and started working in the customer service department at Allianz in 2016.

Over the course of his employment, George has been involved in the making of a BBC video highlighting autism in the workplace and was on the BBC radio 5 live show discussing the support he received through the Work Choice programme.

Remarking on the last few years, George said, “Seetec really did change my life forever. My aim was just to stay in the job - I didn't expect to win any award, or the BBC to come in, or to get so much overtime.  So the entire journey from when I started has been unbelievable. Thank you so much. All I wanted was just to take the most of this incredible opportunity and I feel I have done that, so I have no regrets”.
