Seetec has been awarded an accreditation in
the Transgender Equality Index (TEI) in Wolverhampton for providing
equality of services for people who are transgender.
Pat McFadden, MP for Wolverhampton South East
and Minister for Business, Innovation and Skills and Gender
Matters, a registered charity that provides information and support
for transgender people, presented the certificate in a ceremony at
Seetec’s Wolverhampton employment and training centre on Friday
11th September 2009.
With over 25 years experience of delivering
employment and training programmes, the award recognises Seetec’s
outstanding approach to diversity and equality, and ensures that
transgender people receive the same high quality standard of
service and enjoy the same choices and opportunities as any other
jobseeker or learner undertaking a Seetec programme.
The Transgender Equality Index (TEI), which is
inspired by the Stonewall 100 equality index model for gay people,
highlights issues of equality for the transgender community and has
been a huge success over the years. West Midlands charity
Gender Matters, funded by Wolverhampton City Council, is one of the
first transgender support groups to take this equality scheme
forward and works with a number of businesses, private and public
service providers to implement a transgender equality policy which
meets legal and social obligations.
Debra Fullerton, Operations Manager for the
Black Country, said “Achieving this standard is an important
milestone for Seetec. We continually strive to deliver a high
quality service to all members of the community and have welcomed
the opportunity to work with Gender Matters to further improve our
policies and staff awareness”.
