Rebecca, is now a Customer Service Administrator with Seetec's
Peterborough employment and training centre. She tells us in
her own words her experience of finding work.
"After speaking to a friend who had previously been on Programme
Centre for Lone Parents with Seetec and subsequently got a position
at Thomas Cook, I decided to go and visit my local Jobcentre
Plus to see if I could also attend the course.
Once I had made an appointment with my Jobcentre Plus adviser
they told me a little more about the programme and how it would
benefit me if I was going to be looking for work.
When I arrived at Seetec’s Peterborough centre, I must
admit I was a little apprehensive but my Adviser Natasha made me
feel very welcome. She explained what the course was about and
I soon relaxed in the friendly atmosphere. It was not long before I
made up my mind about the course and signed up for the 8 week
duration.
Natasha helped me to create my own CV, showing me how to
analyse adverts and perfect my interview technique. She also helped
me with job search and generally built up my motivation and
confidence so I was ready for the return to work.
Near to the end of the course, a vacancy for a Customer
Service Administrator came up with Seetec.
Natasha explained what the role entailed and I knew then
because of my past experience that I wanted to apply for the
position.
Using the skills I had learnt from the course I targeted my CV
for the vacancy and applied for the position. Within a couple of
weeks I had a letter come through with an interview date!!
I was taught to “Prepare, Prepare and Prepare” and that is just
what I did. I analysed the job description and found examples from
my previous roles for the position.
Even though I was nervous in the interview, I remembered what
Seetec had taught me about my body language and answered all the
questions just like I had prepared for, by the end of it I thought
I had done okay.
The next few days were nail biting but within a week I had a
call from HR informing me that I had got the position….GREAT!!
I then had to speak to the Jobcentre Plus about coming off
benefits and also about claiming my “Back to Work” bonus, Working
Tax Credits and In Work Credits
Two weeks later I started with Seetec, it’s been excellent so
far and it is a great feeling to be back in a job and working
again!!"
