A New Deal for Disabled People customer has
been highly commended for his photograph of Pollsmoor prison in the
Environmental Photographer of the Year competition.
Peter Davies who receives help and advice from
Seetec's Chelmsford centre, made it to the final 15 in the
competition which attracted over 1,400 entries. Peter took the
photograph at the Cape Town prison to help publicise the work of
the Terling charity and the Hope Prison Ministry, who work with the
juvenile wing of the overcrowded prison where hundreds of children
are locked away to keep them off the streets. The charity works to
reintroduce these children to society by teaching them a
craft.
Peter has been working with charities since an
emergency operation left him unable to work full time. "The
competition has given me a great opportunity to use my craft in a
way that will benefit people" said Peter.
His Pollsmoor Prison photograph has appeared
with the other top photographs in an exhibition in London and will
now go on an international tour. Peter will now be embarking on his
own tour of Pakistan and Kashmir as part of a project to recruit
nurses and to help earthquake victims.
