The owner of an international freight
forwarding company who trains her staff with Seetec has received
finalist status in the Industry Trainer of the Year category for
the 2008 Everywoman awards.
Mandy Bennett who owns Chaucer Freight in
Rainham, Essex had to demonstrate best practice in training within
the Transport and Logistics industry and that she goes beyond her
line of duty to develop the skills of women coming into and working
in the industry.
Mandy has always been committed to staff
training having worked in a big corporate organisation as a
trainer. Since establishing her own company in January 2006, she
found recruitment to be a problem - on paper candidates were
perfect but in practice they just didn't fit the job. So instead
she embarked on recruiting young school leavers with little skills
and experience so she could train them on her own bespoke trainee
programme.
The programme consists of each trainee
receiving 2 weeks individual learning in each department; Sea, Air
UK, Domestic, Warehousing, Sales and Accounts allowing them to gain
all round experience of the company and it's procedures. So far,
the programme has been a success with two members of staff; Terri
and Mark deciding to undertake further training and choosing to
study with Seetec. Mark is now studying for his Warehousing and
Logistics NVQ and Terri for her Business Administration NVQ.
Mandy has taken her nomination in the awards
all in her stride and prefers to talk about her staff's
accomplishments saying "I am really proud that Mark and Terri want
to study for their NVQ's. The courses have given them both a real
confidence boost and have made them realise that they are very
capable and actually know more about their job roles than they
initially thought".
