Life Through A Lens
Peter's photographic career started when Peter became
a Sales Assistant in a camera shop. His big break came when he
was offered a training place at Odhams Press after photographing a
major fire at a large furniture retailer in 1966.
Once Peter had completed his training, he then
worked for several local newspapers and freelanced with all the
national newspapers until joining the Sunday Express. He also
worked for several years for the Mail on Sunday and the
Times.
In 1997 he suffered high blood pressure which, unfortunately
led to other serious illnesses and resulted in Peter having major
surgery. In 2004, he joined the NDDP programme in Chelmsford and
went back to work on a part time basis but unfortunately, due to
ill health this came to an end. He re-joined the programme in 2006
and within a few months was once again able to resume his career.
Up until recently he had been working for the Essex Chronicle and
is now working on small features for the Times and the Sun.
Peter loves to travel. Even after having major surgery he
still travels to South Africa on a regular basis to work on a
charity project helping 10 to 14 year old gang members in Pollsmoor
Maximum Security Prison; a notoriously harsh prison which once
housed Nelson Mandela. He has also worked on other charity projects
in Malawi, Laos and Cambodia and in February, health permitting, he
is due to go back to South Africa to help homeless children.
Obviously, he has a fantastic catalogue of pictures and will
be holding an exhibition of his work in Chelmsford later in the
year. His success also continues overseas, with Peter recently
selling pictures to an organisation in the USA which has led to an
invitation to exhibit his work there in August.
Peter said "Seetec have been a huge help in giving me the
opportunity to regain the confidence required to re-enter a very
competitive commercial environment".
