Overview

An integrated programme of work-based learning comprising a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ), relevant underpinning knowledge, Technical Certificates, Key Skills, paid (training allowance) work experience and sector specific training at Foundation and Advanced levels for 16-24 year olds.

Eligibility

Apprentices

Living in England, aged 16-24 and not taking part in full-time education

Employers

Any organisation that meets the requirements for providing placements

Duration

Foundation

approx. 9-18 months (learner dependent)

Advanced

approx. 9-24 months (learner dependent)

Aims

Apprenticeships aim: to raise young peoples participation in learning, to support their retention, improve their levels of attainment and provide exible routes of progression. In so doing they provide a workforce with qualifications that employers need and seek.

To provide young learners with opportunities to enter the labour market with relevant industry qualifications
To promote lifelong learning through career development
To increase the number of people with basic and level 2 skills
To address skills shortages
To increase staff productivity
