Overview
 
An integrated programme of work-based learning comprising a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ), relevant underpinning knowledge, Technical Certificates, Key Skills, paid (training allowance) work experience and sector specific training at Foundation and Advanced levels for 16-24 year olds.

Eligibility

 

Apprentices

Living in England, aged 16­-24 and not taking part in full-time education

 

Employers

Any organisation that meets the requirements for providing placements

Duration

 

Foundation

approx. 9-18 months (learner dependent)
Advanced
approx. 9-24 months (learner dependent)

 

 

 

Aims
 
Apprenticeships aim: to raise young peoples participation in learning, to support their retention, improve their levels of attainment and provide exible routes of progression. In so doing they provide a workforce with qualifications that employers need and seek.
 Key Objectives
 
  • To provide young learners with opportunities to enter the labour market with relevant industry qualifications
  • To promote lifelong learning through career development
  • To increase the number of people with basic and level 2 skills
  • To address skills shortages
  • To increase staff productivity
