New Deal for Lone Parents (NDLP)
New Deal for Lone Parents is a voluntary programme designed
for single parents who are claiming benefit and want to work.
The programme provides support in finding a job that suits
lifestyles and overcomes barriers to work such as assistance with
childcare, lack of confidence or out of date skills.
As the programme is voluntary, involvement is up to the
participant. People who are interested in NDLP must firstly speak
to their local Jobcentre Plus, they will meet with a trained Lone
Parent Adviser who will help with the transition back to
work. They can advise on a wide range of issues including
careers, specific training courses and other issues such as debt
management and housing difficulties. The programme can also
provide assistance with costs such as childcare or travel and
whilst the participant is training there are even opportunities to
gain an additional allowance to benefits.
The Adviser will put the participant in contact with training
providers, such as Seetec who offer participants the support
and guidance they need to get back into work. We can help
with:
- Advice on jobsearch and in-work
benefits
- Basic training such as CV writing or interview
techniques
- Identifying any training needs to further
skills
- Matching skills and abilities to local employers
needs
- Support in the first 6 months of starting
work
NDLP is completely flexible - participants
don't lose benefits whilst on the programme and, if for any reason
they cannot continue then they can leave without any fuss or loss
of benefits.
