Voluntary Sector Option (VSO)

 
Overview
 
The Voluntary Sector Option is designed to improve employability of participants through training and participation in a project or placement of benefit to the community. The work experience is with one of a variety of voluntary organisations that is local to the participant. Whilst taking part on VSO participants will receive either a wage or an allowance equivalent to JSA plus a training allowance and travel expenses.
Eligibility

 

NDYP
Voluntary, 18-24, claiming JSA for 6 months or within a special group
Duration

 

Minimum 13 weeks
Can be extended by between 1 and 13 weeks
Aims
 
The Voluntary Sector Option aims to enhance the long-term employment prospects of participants by providing a high quality work placement, where appropriate short 1 day training that is vocationally focused and help with job search. The work placement has a clear benefit to the participant in enhancing their employability and delivers benefits to the community.
