Gateway To Work
 
Overview
 
A compulsory two-week course in personal and job seeking skills, which forms part of the Gateway period. It helps participants improve their communication, team working and problem solving skills.  It focuses on the importance of presentation, punctuality, timekeeping and management in order to find work.  It also offers advice and guidance with job applications, CV writing and job interview techniques.

NDYP

Mandatory, 18-24, claiming JSA for 6 months and still in New Deal 4 weeks after entering the Gateway

Aims

 

The overall aim of Gateway to Work is to provide participants with the qualities, attitudes and behaviours which employers need. Participants are provided job search advice and guidance with job search resources to enable them to apply for suitable vacancies.

 Key Objectives

 

  • To increase the numbers of participants moving from Gateway into jobs and improve job prospects
  • To increase employability by developing effective workplace behaviours, attitudes and soft skills
  • To enable participants who do not find jobs to make an informed New Deal option choice from the places available to them and to better prepare them to benefit from that option
