The Gateway

Overview

Initial period of help and support to assist unemployed participants find work or address their employment needs by referral to short types of provision. The Gateway provides an initial assessment of needs, supported jobsearch, a mandatory two week Gateway to Work course, additional training, advice and guidance.

NDYP

Mandatory, 18 - 24, claiming JSA for 6 months

Duration

lasts up to four months

Aims

The aim of Gateway is to help participants find work and equip them with the skills and abilities required to progress them to the point where they are job ready. Gateway provision in each locality is focused so that it meets the needs of the local labour market and young people in the NDYP customer group.

Key Objectives

To help those who are already well equipped to find jobs
To provide those less well equipped, with the necessary support to quickly improve their employment prospects
To help those taking up options to:

·        make the most appropriate choice

·        be prepared to start their chosen option
·        to get the most out of their option
