National Programme for Infomation Technology (NPfIT)
As you are no doubt aware, there are significant
changes happening in IT within the NHS market at the moment.
These policies are aimed primarily towards achieving a full
National Care Record Service (NCRS), supplying every patient in the
country with their own electronic record. This will be
accessible from any IT system in any NHS-based establishment.
It will be the job of NPfIT to ensure solutions are found to
achieve this and for software companies to deliver working,
compliant modules.
The first of these projects is Choose
and Book (formerly known as EBS (Electronic booking service)
and e-booking). This will allow GP's to immediately refer a
patient for treatment electronically, including sending key medical
data (such as the referral letter, drug allergies, medical
conditions) for the consultant to have immediate access to.
It will also give the patient numerous benefits, such as choosing
the day of their appointment and tracking the progress/changes to
their appointment.
So where does Seetec fit into all of
this?
Our primary objective is to ensure GP Enterprise, our GP
Practice software, is fully accredited by NPfIT for Choose and Book. We are in the
excellent position of working with the NPfIT team since the early
stages of this project (only a small number of companies have had
this opportunity). We have therefore been involved with this
project from day one, taking a key role in the progress, testing
and development of Choose and Book.
Our secondary objective is to integrate these new
national services as seamlessly as possible into the current
product. We feel we have achieved this with the Choose and Book module. Referring
patients will follow very familiar options for our users, but with
national services available in these sections.
The project is nearing completion in the development
phase. Our early adopter (beta) sites have now had the
software deployed. After a short testing period, the software
will then be rolled out to the rest of our customers in a
structured fashion, working closely with PCTs.
Work has also progressed in the ETP (Electronic Transfer of
Prescriptions) project. This project will allow prescriptions
to be sent electronically from the patient's practice to their
designated pharmacy, without the need for the patient to visit the
practice. Again, we are working closely with NPfIT, and are
approaching piloting the early stages of the project with our beta
practices.
So, as a summary, SEETEC are fully in tune with NPfIT.
We are therefore maintaining our position in the Primary Care
market as an important supplier of GP Software. We are about
to become a fully compliant NPfIT software provider both with
regards to our software and our service as a company. We feel
that this speaks volumes as to how we are viewed within
the NHS and the kind of service that we offer to our customer
base.
