Seetec will run Westfield Stratford City’s 8,500 square feet
Retail Academy. The Academy will be pivotal in the training and
recruitment of staff, to match the expected 3,000 vacancies which
will be generated by the development. Thereafter it is expected to
train over 1,000 people annually towards careers and qualifications
in Retail, Hospitality, Administration and Support occupations.
Among the courses provided will be City and Guilds skills’
programmes at levels 1-4 and store management programmes.
There will also be business support for independent and small
retailers as well as other training courses essential for all
employers within and around Westfield’s Stratford City.
“The Academy...is expected to
train over 1,000 people annually
towards careers and qualifications in
Retail, Hospitality, Administration and
Support occupations.”
The Retail Academy will also offer employment search
opportunities to the public and provide local retailers the chance
to advertise job vacancies. For new stores opening in Westfield
Stratford City, Seetec’s Academy will assist the retailer in
sourcing staff, who have participated in the pre-employment retail
programme Retail Works and similarly the People 1st Hospitality
pre-employment programme will be available to those aiming at the
hospitality sector.
These programmes provide candidates with a basic grounding in a
career in their chosen sector along with information about the
expectations of employers in those sectors. Westfield Stratford
City is situated a stone’s throw from the London Olympic
Stadium.

It is anticipated to be the gateway for up to 70% of the games
visitors. Benefiting from the International Rail Station on its
doorstep, it will be home to household names in the retail world
including John Lewis and Marks & Spencer, as well as a range of
leisure facilities such as bars, restaurants and hotels. Westfield
is one of the world’s biggest retail property groups with an
investment portfolio of 119 shopping centres across Australia, New
Zealand, the UK and the USA.
