Car wash attracts Chinese delegation

Chinese Delegation visit

Enfield car wash was the centre of attention when a delegation from China visited to find out how the operation supports people in the area with disabilities into work.

The car wash, based in Palace Gardens Shopping Centre, has been operating in the town for four years and is managed by Seetec.

The aim of the car wash is to provide vital work experience, giving local people with disabilities the opportunity to gain new skills and confidence to assist them into employment.

The six-strong senior delegation from Shanghai Disabled Persons’ Federation visited the UK for four days to find out how companies in the UK are aiding people with disabilities, and about policies relating to education and employment.

Leonard Cheshire Disability, the charity which supports disabled people to fulfil their potential, hosted the visit and took the delegation to the car wash to demonstrate how these innovative operations give people valuable work experience.

Robert Maisey, Programme Manager - Employment, Enterprise & Innovation, Leonard Cheshire Disability, said: “I think everyone got a lot out of the visit. The delegation got to see people in a real work environment and those working at the car wash that day were able to explain what they did and I think they thoroughly enjoyed the visit”

Seetec Franchise Project Supervisor, Clifford O’Garro, said: “We were delighted to welcome the visitors from China. They spent time talking to our customers, finding out how this work experience is helping them not only learn new skills around motor vehicle maintenance but also more importantly about handling money and teamwork.”

Alex Temple, who works at the car wash, said: “I have learned lots of tasks at the car wash from cleaning different parts of vehicles, customer service and working as a team. We’re like a family.”

The car wash is based on Level 2 at the Place Gardens Shopping Centre, Enfield and open from 9am to 4 pm every day.
