Days off work due to sickness are a
natural part of working life. However, repeated short or long term
absence could affect confidence and skill levels, taking people
further away from a desired early return to work.
Evidence shows that work has a
therapeutic value and is generally good for both physical and
mental health conditions.
Walsall Absence Management Service is
a free vocational rehabilitation scheme offered to Walsall
employers and employees by Seetec. Staff who are off sick are
supported to an early return to work through a tailored programme
of confidence and skills building.
Vocational rehabilitation restores the
capacity for work, whether the absence is due to physical or
psychological conditions.
Seetec works with Managers,
Occupational Health and Human Resources teams to address factors
that may be contributing to sickness absence.
- More than 8 out of 10 individuals
using a formal back to work rehabilitation programme say that their
performance at work has improved. (CIPD)
- The human cost of long term sickness
is high: national statistics show that 80% of people off sick for 6
months or more will never work again. (ONS Survey)
- Small and medium businesses often
feel daunted by the extra time they perceive will be required to
support people back to work in this way. However there is a strong
business case for bringing someone back to work to carry out even
30% of their duties rather than remaining at home on sick
leave.
- Managers who do not have access to
occupational/vocational in work health support often feel that they
do not have sufficient knowledge or experience to assess the level
of work an employee who was on sick leave could undertake.
We can offer the following free
support to employers and employees who need help
returning to work due to illness or
injury.
- Tailored advice and guidance
- Confidence building
- Skills/job assessments
- Identification of training needs
- Signposting to health support
services
- Identification of any required
workplace adjustments
- On-going support throughout the
return to work process
